Senator Clarke was elected to the Alabama Senate on Jan 3, 1989 (next election in 2019). He served one term in the House of House of Representatives prior to being elected to the Senate.

Senator Clarke is serving his fifth term in the Alabama Senate.

He was born November 30, 1949, in White Hall, Alabama, and has been a resident of Montgomery for over three decades. He is a graduate of Alabama State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science in 1971.

Senator Clarke is a widower with one child, Winifred Clarke, who followed in her father’s footsteps and took an interest in politics at a very young age. Winifred is currently a member of the Montgomery City Council and dreams of becoming an Alabama senator in the future.

Senator Clarke is a member of Montgomery’s Trust in God Evangelical Church, a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, and is also the owner of Kingpin Kitchens and Kounters and part-owner/co-founder of Thomas Lumber and Building Supply.
